Amy studied neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh before completing her PhD in the neuroendocrinology of feeding behaviour. She then moved into science communication, having worked in both the charitable and higher education sectors. She managed the digital news team at Cancer Research UK from 2022 to 2025.
