This month’s podcast is packed with highlights from the National Cancer Research Institute Cancer Conference – the biggest of its kind in the UK.

Cancer Research UK’s Professor Michel Coleman discusses whether the UK really is the “sick man of Europe” when it comes to cancer care and survival.

Looking back over centuries of research, Professor Valerie Beral explains how women’s childbirth and breastfeeding patterns could be the key to preventing breast cancer.

Professor Nazneen Rahman talks about a new discovery she’s made in a type of childhood cancer called Wilms’ tumour, which could help doctors to diagnose and treat the disease in the future.

And finally, the ever-engaging national cancer director Professor Mike Richards shares his views on the costs of cancer care, and how the NHS could use its money more effectively. He’s got some interesting views on how cash could be freed up to pay for cancer drugs and other treatments.
