The currency of science is information – ideas, discoveries and data. And all these things come from the enterprise and accomplishments of individual people. That’s why we place so much importance on the researchers we fund. We simply won’t beat cancer without them.

This week we’re proud to announce an £11 million investment into some of the brightest minds in cancer research. We’ve awarded seven new investigator awards to talented scientists who impressed us with their potential to become leaders in the fight against cancer.

The money will help each of the scientists to establish or develop their own research groups. The focus of each team will vary – from understanding the basic nuts and bolts of how cells divide to uncovering why cancers become resistant to treatment .But the ultimate goal of every project is to help us beat cancer.

If you want to know more about the rigorous application and selection process these scientists went through, there’s plenty more information in this article we wrote about the last round of new investigator funding.

And you can click on each of the below photos to find out more about the work of each of the seven scientists we’ve funded this time around:

Thank you

We receive no government funding for our research, so each and every pound donated to us by the public is crucial in our fight against cancer. And we’re making significant progress thanks to this generous support – survival from cancer has doubled over the past 40 years.

We’d like to thank all of our supporters. You’re not just funding research and you’re not just funding people – ultimately you’re funding life-saving advances against cancer.

Further information

We aim to continue investing in career development of talented cancer researchers, and we intend to maintain our significant investment in new investigator awards, clinician scientist fellowships, and population research postdoctoral fellowships in the next year. Candidates should have strong track record of research, and the proposed work should fit within our Research Strategy. Please keep an eye on the websites for announcements and get in touch to discuss an application.
