For many years, Tesco customers and colleagues have generously supported our vital work – from in-store fundraising to taking part in Race for Life and much more. Today, Tesco once again demonstrates its unwavering support as it launches the Health Charity Partnership’s appeal, raising money for three of the UK’s best-loved charities: Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.

From 1 to 13 September, Tesco customers can make a donation by rounding up their shop in store to the nearest £1 at all manned and self-service checkouts, including pharmacies and petrol stations (kiosks only). The money raised will be match funded up to £1.5m and will be split equally between the three charities.

Oonagh Turnbull, Head of Health Campaigns at Tesco, said: “To support our charity partners and the millions of people who rely on their work, we’re aiming to raise as much money as possible in our stores for these three incredible charities. Many of us know someone who has been affected by cancer, heart and circulatory diseases or diabetes. It’s essential that they’re able to continue their groundbreaking work so that countless generations can benefit now and in the future.”

She added: “Our customers have always been so generous in helping us support such good causes, and there’s never been a more important time as now to give a little help to power the life-changing work of these three charities. Together we can help them carry on saving and improving lives at this critical time.”

COVID-19 has hit us hard and this year we expect to see a drop in our fundraising income of £160m. We have already been forced to make a £44m cut to research spend this year, and we’ll need to reduce the amount of research we fund annually. But we’re determined to keep making progress for people affected by cancer, who have never needed us more. We urgently need support to continue our vital research to alleviate the global burden of cancer. The money raised by Tesco and its generous customers at this time will greatly help us continue our life-saving work.
