Ticketmaster Celebrates 1.5m

Since joining forces in 2015, Ticketmaster have raised £1.5m for Cancer Research UK. Cancer affects us all. We can’t beat it alone and luckily, thanks to partnerships like this, we don’t have to.

From funding clinical trials to raising awareness and influencing policy, we make sure we spend every pound in the best way to power progress for people affected by cancer. £1.5m could fund Professor Richard Gilbertson’s studies into brain tumour genetics for a year and a half.

Professor Richard Gilbertson in Cambridge is one of the world’s leading experts in childhood brain tumour research. He’s studying the genetic faults that lead to brain tumours developing, so he and his team can find new drugs to treat children with this type of cancer. Thanks to research, today 3 in 4 children diagnosed with cancer are cured, but we need more research like this to make sure every child survives, and that treatments are kinder.

Over eight years, Ticketmaster staff and customers have come together to reach this incredible fundraising milestone. From staff raising £60,000 in 2019 through Ultra White Collar Boxing and Ultra Ballroom events, to customers generously adding donations when buying tickets online. Ticketmaster have also donated items for auction and raffle prizes at our events. And this is all despite the challenges of COVID-19, with events cancelled and in-person fundraising activities put on hold.

Chris Edmonds, Chairman Ticketmaster International, says: “Hitting the £1.5m milestone for Cancer Research UK has been an incredible journey, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing team. Cancer’s tough, but we’re not giving up without a fight. I look forward to the laughs at Ticketmaster’s next comedy fundraiser, and our continued World Cancer Day fundraisers around the globe.”

We’re delighted that our partnership is coming back stronger for 2024. Plans are already underway for a staff comedy event and activities to mark World Cancer Day in February.

Caro Evans, CRUK Director of Partnerships says “All of us here at Cancer Research UK are immensely proud that Ticketmaster have hit this goal. We’re so grateful for their support and excited for the scientific discoveries it will unlock. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our partnership. Together we are beating cancer.”
