Simon Boulton

Cancer Research UK and Cancer Research Horizons have appointed Simon Boulton as their first Chief Translation Advisor.

Simon is a leader in the field of DNA damage sensing, repair and telomere maintenance. He is a Principal Group Leader and Assistant Research Director for Translation at the Francis Crick Institute and Director of RadNet City of London. Simon is also co-founder and Vice President of Science Strategy of the spin-out Artios Pharma.

In this new role, Simon will be helping shape our approach to academic translation and innovation across Cancer Research UK and Cancer Research Horizons’ portfolios. He will work closely with Cancer Research UK’s academic research community, using his experience to support them to embrace an entrepreneurial mindset and bridge the gap between discovery research and translation.

Simon spoke about the dawn of the field of DNA damage repair, why an entrepreneurial approach to research is so valuable and the importance of venture capital in the innovation landscape in the first series of our Cancer Research Matters podcast.

Watch out for his contribution to the upcoming second series, which will focus on research translation and entrepreneurship.
