Kirstie Allsopp welcomed people into her Devon home this weekend where she hosted her very own yard sale to inspire people to hold their own yard sale event, and to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer, a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 to accelerate new cancer treatments to patients and save more lives.
“Having lost my mum and other family members to this dreadful disease, I wanted to do something special to support Stand Up To Cancer. I hope this inspires people to find their own exciting way to raise money for this campaign.” – Kirstie Allsopp
The sale, held in Kirstie’s garden in Devon, saw hordes of people attend to browse stalls of donated clothes, furniture and toys. Visitors could also take part in fete games, including a bouncy castle and tombola. Special treats from local cake sellers were also on offer.
Kirstie Allsopp said: “Having lost my mum and other family members to this dreadful disease, I wanted to do something special to support Stand Up To Cancer. Over the years I have accumulated a lot of things that I love but really don’t need, so it was great to find new homes for it all while raising money for a cause that’s very dear to me. It was also a lot of fun!
“We had all kinds of treasures for sale and fun activities to make sure people had lots of opportunities to spend money! Because the more cash we raise the faster we can get cancer treatments to the people who really need them. I hope this inspires people to find their own exciting way to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.”
Items for sale at Kirstie’s yard sale included homemade cushions, children’s toys and scarves owned and worn by Kirstie’s mum, and the event raised more than £2,400.
Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said: “Kirstie’s yard sale was a fantastic event and a perfect example of how fundraising can bring people together to have fun. We’re so grateful to Kirstie for her immense support, all the money raised will go towards the really vital area of research that Stand Up To Cancer funds, bringing new and kinder treatments to patients sooner.”
As part of this year’s campaign, Stand Up To Cancer is asking the public to hold their own yard sale, have a bake sale, have a day with crazy legs or take on a personal challenge to raise money and help cancer sooner.
