Cancer Research UK’s Dryathlon is challenging the nation to prove their willpower this September. Offered as a twist to the traditional January challenge, Dryathlon September gives the nation an opportunity to bin the booze after the summer and kick start healthy intentions whilst raising money to help fight cancer.

“Most of us want to cut down the booze in January after a little overindulging at Christmas but we are asking the nation to really test themselves and take on a whole new challenge of binning the booze in a different month – September.” – Anthony Newman, Cancer Research UK

The task is simple – ditch the drink for a month and encourage sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues or simply pledge the pounds saved by not picking up that pint or prosecco. Those who want to prove they’ve got the willpower can register to become a Dryathlete from 18th July at dryathlon.org.

As the fundraising total goes up, Dryathletes could be ditching the pounds on the scales. A handy alcohol calculator on dryathlon.org can not only work out how much money Dryathletes can save over a month by giving up the sauce, but how many calories they’ll save too!

Anthony Newman, brand, marketing and communications director at Cancer Research UK said: “Dryathlon is back and we want it to be bigger and better than ever. Most of us want to cut down the booze in January after a little overindulging at Christmas but we are asking the nation to really test themselves and take on a whole new challenge of binning the booze in a different month: September.

“It’s a tough challenge but after a summer of holidays, festivals and weddings it’s a perfect time to have a break and commit to a booze-free month. We are asking the British public to join our team and put down the pints, back away from the beer and cut the cocktails this September to raise money. Our vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured and every pound Dryathletes raise this September will help fund our vital research. We’ll be here supporting every step of the way with tips and inspiration to make a sober September a breeze.”

Dryathlon has raised more than £19.5 million for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work. This year’s campaign will run from 1st to 30th September with registration open from mid-July at dryathlon.org.

Celebrity personality Imogen Thomas is taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Dryathlon this September.
