Colon epithelial cells

Thanks to all those who submitted entries last month – your images were fantastic – after a difficult time picking a winner, here are a few of our top picks from the rest of April’s entries.

This entry is part 18 of 18 in the series Research is Beautiful
Series Navigation<< Latest winner in our Research is Beautiful competition
Micro Glia
This fabulous image from Marc Haniford of the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute shows phagocytic Iba1⁺ microglia interacting with a GFAP⁺ astrocyte following AZD1390 treatment and irradiation.
colon epithelial cells
Coming from Sarah Spear, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, this image really impressed our judges. It shows colon epithelial cells (red) and mucus producing goblet cells (green) damaged by colitis. The regeneration that occurs is in blue. This stain is used to identify treatments that help reduce colitis damage.
